Sports writer, Cameroon.

The indomitable lionesses of Cameroon, have lost five places on the FIFA Women’s world rankings for the month of September.

The world’s football governing body FIFA, this Friday September 27, 2019, made public the rankings of the 161 Women national selections affiliated to the institution. Cameroon that was previously ranked 41st, now occupies the 46th spot, behind countries like Myanmar, Hungary, and Uzbekistan.

Cameroon losing five places in the latest rankings, didn’t come as a surprise to many, given the recent shambolic displays from Alain Djeumfa and his lionesses. The lionesses won just one of their four matches in the women’s world cup in France, and have since then failed to beat Ethiopia, who were ranked who ranked 119th then. The lionesses Drew 1#1 in Ethiopia and were held zero all in Yaounde. A score that rather benefited Ethiopia who have climbed up seven places, and now occupies the 111 position on the world’s rankings.

Despite losing five places, Cameroon remains second Best in the African continent, behind Nigeria, who are ranked 36th in the world and first in Africa. The Black queens of Ghana completes the top three in Africa, and also the top 50 in the world, as they are ranked 50th, four places behind Cameroon.

Double world cup winners USA continues their lead as the best Nation in women’s football, followed by Germany and the Netherlands.

Since the creation of the FIFA World women’s rankings, Cameroon’s average position is 65. The lionesses will face DR Congo ranked 118th, in a double header Olympic qualifier next month, with the hopes of putting an improved performance.
