AS Fortuna has played a nil nil tie with PWD Social club of Bamenda, in a delayed day one game of the Cameroon league one championship.
In the game played this Wednesday afternoon in Mbankomo, Fortuna enjoyed much of the ball possession especially in the first half, with Alain Thierry Akono causing lots of problems to PWD’s back line.
PWD’s goalie, Rodrigue Zame made a good run out of his box to prevent Fortuna from taking the lead in the first quarter of the game. Louis Tazoh provided Fortuna with great movements from the left flank as Aminu Iliasu defended commandingly against his former club.
Fortuna’s captain Luc Joel owono engaged several midfield duels with Mbah Louiz, Ade Mienolf and Ndeh Collins but all attempts from coach Simplice Njiki and his boys to get the much needed goal in the first half were nullified by a steady PWD’S back three of Burinyuy Derrick, Boung Joel and Njang Romeo.
When Coach Simplice Njiki brought in Leonel Christian Ateba, Thierry Banbe and Abdel Salam Mefira to add more flair to his attack David Pagou countered it with the introduction of Edet Ndifon Kenneth, Willy Batoum and Mermoz Zoospiro.
Aminu Iliasu picked up a late booking, his second of the game and was sent off but Fortuna held tight and had goalkeeper Jean Daniel Nyeck to thank for a last minute save from Nde Collins’ shot.
Speaking after the game, PWD’s Coach David Pagou said “We lacked just goals, we could have killed the game but unfortunately the children made a lot of wrong decisions, but it is understandable. It is our third straight game out of home in less than 10 days and it’s the same team that played all those three games, so we are at least satisfied moving away with a point”.
David Pagou was shown a yellow card during the game by referee Koute Lemouchele, and gaffer explained what transpired.
” It was just a simple complaint that I made because a ball went out beside the corner flag and the Fortuna player executed the thrown in about 15 meters from that point. When I complained, he gave me a yellow card “
Coach David Pagou has operated this term largely with a 3_5 _2 formation, which has been heavily criticized by the supporters of the Abakwa boys. Asked if he thinks of changing the system before Sunday’s game against Bamboutos in Bamenda, he said “I play the system with the guys I have. I can not change it because people are complaining. The system is not important, it is the animation that is very important. There are times you play with four defenders and you still concede many goals. YOSA, Canon and Dragon played with four defenders, but we still defeated them. I play because I have the guys who play like this.
