The 2021 edition of the National Interpools rounded-off Saturday September 25 2021, in Baffoussam as Rangers Football Club of Bafut joined Gazelle FA of Garoua and Lausanne FC of Yaounde to secure elite status in Cameroon next season.
The three teams emerged winners of their various pools after overpowering their opponents.
How it happened
The Competition kicked off on Saturday September 18 in Limbe, South West Cameroon with 10 regional champions grouped into three pools.
EFBC of Douala, Lausanne F C of Yaounde, Kohi of Maroua, Les Amis of Ngaoundere were paired in group A based in Limbe while Gazelle FA of Garoua, CPS of Bertoua, FC Ebolowa were grouped in pool A playing in Bafoussam.
Southwest and Northwest representatives, in Best Stars Academy and Rangers FC of Bafut respectively, joined host Riziere FC of Tonga in pool C playing at the Fotso Victor Stadium in Bandjoun and Bamendzi Stadium.
In the opening game of the tournament Les Amis punished future Star-studded EFBC by 2#0 at the Ngeme Annex Stadium in Limbe.
Lausanne FC of Yaounde punished Kohi FC of Maroua 2#0 at the Ngeme Annex Stadium with Makon Arthur and Ateba Franck scoring in each half in match number 2 of the National Play-offs.
Match number 3 saw Gazelle FA beating CPS of Bertoua 2#0 at the Fotso Victor Stadium in Bandjoun, on Sunday September 19, same day Rangers FC imposed a 2#0 defeat on Riziere FC of Tonga in match number 4. Inspite being the only side to play at home, Riziere finished bottom of group C with 1 point.
On Match number 5 EFBC of Douala came from behind to clinch all three points against Kohi FC of Maroua in a 2#1 dramatic victory, before Lausanne FC and Les Amis in match number 6 shared the spoils in a Zero all tie in Limbe.
Gazelle FA of Garoua, became the first team to secure qualification into the elite two football championship after edging FC Ebolowa 2-1 at the newly constructed Bamendzi Stadium in match number 7 on Wednesday September 22.
Best Stars Academy of Limbe, wasted several chances before finding their breakthrough few minutes to full-time, but Riziere FC of Tonga scored a consolation goal of their tournament to exit with at least a point in match number 8.
Match number 9 and 10 took place simultaneously in Limbe and Douala to avoid match fixing. Laussane FC of Yaounde defeated EFBC 2#1 while Les Amis whitewashed Kohi FC of Maroua 7#1, the largest goal margin in a match in this National Interpools.
The victory for Lausanne took them tied with Les Amis on 7points.
As provided by the rules and regulations of the competition, only the disciplinary records placed Lausanne ahead of Les Amis, who had accumulated four yellow cards as compared to 1 for the latter.
Playing for pride, honour and integrity on match number 11, FC Ebolowa humbled CPS Bertoua, 3#2 in a five goals triller to finish as runners up in group B .It was described by book makers as a game of no stakes. Indeed it was.
The last game of the National Playoffs was the most animative and entertaining although with no goal.
Rangers FC of Bafut and Best Stars Academy of Limbe gave spectators a run for their money in a 0#0 game 12 of the national interpools which favored the Northwest team.
34 goals were scored in 12 games played in Limbe, Southwest and West Regions of Cameroon from September 18-25 2021.
Elite Two substitutions:
The three teams to replace Unisport of Bafang, AS Matelots of Douala and Foncha Street FC of Bamenda are Gazelle FA, Laussane FC and Rangers of Bafut.
Observers have praised the Cameroon Football Federation and it’s partners for a smooth and near perfect organisation of the tournament.
According to findings, this was the first National interpools to be co-hosted by two regions and end up being played in three regions since the adoption of this format.
