PWD of Kumba played to a less impressive 1-1 draw with a team of selected players from the South West Region in preparation for the national round-robin tournament.
PWD of Kumba played almost a full strength team with captain Abane Bibish leading the back line and their main front three of Namse Kelson Ebile, Moses Itua and Bertrand kah Takie all starting.
The game looked cagy with both teams not really showing any attacking drive.
PWD however found the break through in the first half when Itua, Namse and Takie combined, with Takie providing the finishing touch that beat goalkeeper Stephen Njocke Junior of the South West selection.
The rest of the first half was characterized with some wasteful finishing and unpleasant Football from both sides.
In the second half coach Ngeh Njieaki of PWD made some changes that lifted his team but they did not get a second goal.
Coach Mbounya did some telling changes and one of his substitutes Augustine Eyo connected perfectly with a cross from Rolland Sone Noge from the right and his low header left goalkeeper Fule Clinton of PWD rooted on his line.
There was a lot of risky and uncharacteristic less reassuring defending from the PWD captain and his partner Ernest Ebongue in central defense which was the origin of the equalizer they conceded.
PWD of Kumba asked all the questions in the dying moments of the game but they looked far from a finished article which can inspire confidence to the expectant population of the South West region.
Their final preparation game will be on Thursday August 22nd, 2019 against reigning Cameroon Cup Champions Stade Renard of Melong at 3:00Pm at the Limbe community field.
It should be noted that the expected fanfare and support for the regional champions was conspicuously absent in this friendly with almost an entire stadium leaving before the game just after a mammoth crowd watched an inter-quarter game between Cassava Farms FC and Options Sports club of Limbe. An isolated Secretary General of the South West Regional Bureau of Fecafoot, Mr Esowe Sylvestre Mwambo could be seen right on the technical bench with the team, which was the only kind of support one could see around and for the team a few days away to the interpools.
