19 year old Cameroon forward, Alexandra Takounda Engolo has insisted that the indomitable lionesses must work harder, if they want to beat the Democratic Republic of Congo, and book a place for the fourth round qualifiers for the 2020 Olympic games.

Takounda is one of the players coach Alain Djeumfa is counting on in the third round qualifiers, and Speaking to the press after the lionesses 2#1 win over their military counterparts in Yaounde on Saturday, Takounda said “it was our last friendly game ahead of game against Congo. We’ve prepared very well for the game, and today’s friendly permitted us to evaluate all the work we have done during the week”.

When asked on what needs to be put in place in order to overcome Congo on Thursday, she added “To win the match against Congo, we have to work hard and we have to apply all what the coaches have said during the preparatory phase. Therefore I think the have given us all what it takes to win the match, it is on us now to do the work”.

Takounda scored one and assisted one of the lionesses two goals in the friendly, and was satisfied with her performance. “I am a center forward and I came out of the game with one goal scored. So I am satisfied “.

At her young age of 19, Alexandra Takounda Engolo has participated in one world cup with the indomitable lionesses, after doing same with the U17 category in Jordan, 2016. She is just fresh from the All African games in Morocco, where she Captained the U20 lionesses side that finished runners up, with a silver medal, after losing on penalties to Nigeria in the finals.

Many have tipped her for great career with the Cameroon women’s national selection, and she might lead the attack line against DR Congo on Thursday, especially at a time when Captain Gabriel Aboudi Onguene is set to miss the first leg, through suspension.

The indomitable lionesses host Congo in Yaounde on Thursday October 3, 2019, before the two sides meet five days later, in Kinshasa.
