Cameroon’s Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Supreme State Audit, MBAH ACHA née FOMUNDAM Rose NGWARI, has donated a set of training materials to newly crowned Cameroon league one champions, PWD Social club of Bamenda.
The Abakwa Boys were crowned champions of Cameroon on May 12, 2020, when the Cameroon Football Federation decided to end the 2019/2020 football season.
Minister Mbah Acha Rose on Wednesday June 03, 2020, in the conference Hall of her ministry, handed 15 balls, 20 training jerseys, a pair of gloves, one set of huddles, one set of training rings (50), gim mats, amongst others, to the management of PWD headed by club’s President, Pascal Abunde.
“Thank you might not be enough as adjective to describe the way we feel, but we are very happy to receive all these coming from an elite who has been supporting us. This is not the first time. This material is going to help the team to better prepare the 2020/2021 season. We are very happy for this gesture”, Pascal Abunde told reporters after receiving the gifts.
Minister Rose Mbah Acha, is the first North West elite to reach out to PWD, since the team was crowned champions, and says the donation came a bit late.
“This is just a token, just symbolic. This is not the first time I’m giving such. Whenever I am opportune, I do, not only for them (PWD). I have done same for YOSA. I was supposed to have given them before they were proclaimed Champions, but I was a bit occupied with elections, upon coming back they were declared winners and I thought I should encourage them still and just give as I had promised to give. It is not silver or gold, but the little I have with the good intentions to encourage them and push them to go ahead and I hope my gesture is not in vain and I hope they go and bring us the African trophy and keep this championship for as long as possible”, Minister Mbah Acha Rose said.
PWD won their maiden league title in 58 years, an achievement that brought joy to all the supporters of the club both home and abroad. Minister Mbah Acha Rose was not indifferent.
“When we heard the announcement that PWD are Champions of Cameroon, all of us smiled, because football is a rallying force and I’m sure even our boys in the bushes also smiled”, said Mbah Acha Rose.
PWD (Public works Department) of Bamenda, created in 1962 as a sporting department in the then ministry of Works, came close to winning a sliverware in 1968, when the lost the final of the Cameroon cup to Canon of Yaounde, and suffered similar fate in 1979 to Dynamo FC of Douala.
By 1983, the ministry of Public works, previously known as ministry of works, abandoned the team to itself.
Now Cameroon Champions and flag bearers at the upcoming CAF Champions league, PWD, “the people’s club”, as it is often referred to, needs the collective support of every individual, to push the team forward.
The gesture from Minister MBAH ACHA née FOMUNDAM Rose NGWARI, is an eye opener for lovers of the Abakwa Boys, to put their weight behind the team, as they make a comeback to the continental scene 16 years after their last appearance at that stage.
