Cameroon takes on the Coelacanths of Comoros on Monday in the eighth final of the 33rd edition of the Africa Nations Cup. Ahead of the game, the Coelacanths have reportedly suffered a huge blow after 12 members of their team including Coach Amir Abdou and his only two goalkeepers, tested positive for Covid-19. Hitherto first choice keeper, Ben Salime Boina, also suffered an injury which rules him out of the game.
Goalkeeper’s coach Daniel Padovani and Captain Nadjim Abdou, took part in the pre_match media briefings for Comoros, and Padovani revealed that an outfield player will likely play at goal for the Coelacanths, if the situation stays the same until match day.
“We have to focus on our team. We should be able to do our job correctly. We should not relent our efforts, by saying that the opponents has some issues, because we can have some negative surprises,” Conceição told the press.
“We have to start the match with total seriousness, regardless of the situation of COVID-19. Unfortunately we have several teams that have been affected by this COVID-19,” he added.
When asked why the indomitable lions have not recorded many COVID-19 cases, the portuguese tactician gave the same response like he did a week ago.
“As far as I’m concerned, I mentioned this some days ago, that our medical and security staff are actually doing a great job to safeguard our squad, that’s why we don’t have many cases of COVID-19. We have been lodged far out of town, we don’t have visitors. We’re very careful.
The indomitable lions held their last training session on Sunday evening at the Annex one of the Olembe Stadium. FECAFOOT president, Samuel Eto’o and his executive were around to give some encouraging words to Vincent Aboubakar and his teammates, as they continue Cameroon’s chase for a sixth continental crown.
