Cameroon’s minister of Sports and Physical Education, Narcisse Mouelle Kombi, has suspended the president of the Cameroon Karate Federation and some five national trainers indefinitely, following allegations of Sexual harassment levied on them by some members of the various categories of the Cameroon national karate team.
The Cameroon Karate Federation made headlines in July 2020, when some karatekas mostly of the female sex, break the silence on the difficulties they face in the different national selections, accusations the president of the Federation, Maitre Wakam Emmanuel and some trainers of sexually harassing them. According to the athletes, ones the accused fail to get what they want, they in turn do everything possible to keep the athletes in question out of the national selection.
Maitre Wakam Emmanuel and the other accused have since then denied all the claims, with the former quoted to have told Radio Sport Info “ce sont des insolites montées pour me faire partir de la fédération”, roughly translated in English as “they are unusual mounted to make me leave the federation”.
The minister of Sports and Physical Education has since then, created a commission to look into the matter. Following conclusions from the commission, minister Narcisse Mouelle Kombi on Friday August 07, 2020, signed a communiqué, suspending Maitre Wakam Emmanuel from his functions indefinitely.
Also suspended, are Maitre Mbopda Jean, National Technical director number 2, Mme Ngo Simb II Marie Who is the main coach of the national women’s karate team, maitre Esse Jean Francis, coach of the junior national teams, maitre Ambani Germain, deputy coach of the Junior national teams and maitre Bodo Nsioma Stephan, who is the regional coach of karate in the center regional league.
They are accused amongst others, of moral offenses, mismanagement of bonuses and sports equipment within the Cameroon Karate Federation. Minister Narcisse Mouelle Kombi further called on the major actors in the various Sports federations in the country, to scrupulously respect the ethics of their professions.
