The Cameroon elite one championship is getting towards its last 10 playing days for the 2019/2020 football season. Despite this, football analysts and fans are still finding it difficult to predict the future elite two candidates.
With 10 playing days to go, just 15 points separates the bottom club, AS Fortuna, and 3rd placed Coton Sport FC of Garoua. This simply shows that nothing has been settled at the bottom of the league’s table as about 12 clubs can still be relegated to the elite two championship.
Let’s take a look at the bottom 8 clubs with focus on their upcoming fixtures and the possibilities of avoiding relegation.
APEJES OF MFOU: Consistently inconsistent
The team from the Centre region haven’t been consistent with its performance since the start of the season. They are currently ranked 11th on.the log with 32 points recorded so far. They are not yet free from the relegation zone as just 7 points separates them from the bottom placed AS Fortuna.
With 10 games to the end of the championship, Apejes of Mfou are having a very difficult run of games and they have to pick up maximum points should they want to stay in the league next football season.
They have to play Union, Canon, Stade Renard, PWD and Coton at home while they will also have difficult fixtures away from home against Colombe, Avion, TKC, AS Fortuna and UMS.
STADE RENARD OF MELONG
The boys of coach Bertin Ebwelle have managed just 8 wins this season out of 24 matches. Since winning the cup of Cameroon and the super cup, many thought the team will be a veritable title contender this season, but that hasn’t been the case. The team ended the first phase of the championship in the relegation zone and have just managed to get out of it but just 4 points separates them from the bottom three.
From the 10 league games remaining, Stade Renard have 5 matches at home and 5 away from home. They have to fight for a place in the league next season with matches against Panthere, Union, TKC, Colombe, Apejes, Bamboutos, Dragon, Fovu, Feutcheu and PWD. Stade Renard is currently ranked 12th with 31 points.
PANTHERE OF NDE
Panthere of Nde started the league on a very good footing and went 10 matches unbeaten in the league. But after that, the club has been finding it very difficult to keep a perfect run in the league.
Managerial as well as some internal squabbles have been at the centre of some shambolic display from them. But the club has been able to record some shocking results in the championship, notably their two nil away win in Garoua against Coton Sport FC.
However, they have recorded just 6 wins so far this season and are ranked 13th win 29 points.
Panthere’s Remaining Fixtures
Stade Renard (A), Avion (H), Eding (A), YOSA (H), Fovu (H), Colombe (A), Feutcheu FC (A), UMS (H), Canon (H), AS Fortuna (A).
AVION ACADEMY/ EDING SPORT FC
With its recent poor run of form, Avion Academy will have to take maximum points against title contenders like PWD, Coton, Bamboutos should they want to stay in the league. They also have matches against Panthere, Feutcheu, Apejes, Fovu, Dragon, TKC and Eding.
Avion Academy are currently ranked 14th with 28 points.
Eding Sport FC on their part are yet to play the type of football they are noted for. The club is currently battling against relegation. They find themselves at the 15th position with 28 points.
For their remaining matches, Eding Sport FC will take on PWD, Bamboutos, Panthere, TKC, Coton, Dragon, Canon, YOSA, Colombe and Avion Academy.
TKC, DRAGON AND AS FORTUNA
The three clubs from the Centre region are occupying the 16th, 17th and 18th positions respectively and are currently in the bottom three of the championship. But nothing remains certain for all three teams as they can still stay in the elite one championship depending on their results.
For TKC, they have to fight for a place in the championship next season by picking up points against Bamboutos (H), Feutcheu (A), Stade Renard (A), Eding (H), YOSA (A), Apejes (H), Avion (H), Dragon (A), Coton (A) and UMS (H).
For Dragon of Yaounde, they still have matches Coton, PWD, Feutcheu, AS Fortuna, Avion, Eding, Stade Renard, TKC, YOSA and Bamboutos.
Meanwhile for bottom placed AS Fortuna, they will battle it out for a place in the championship with matches against UMS, YOSA, Fovu, Dragon, Colombe, Coton, Apejes, Canon, Union and Panthere.
Everything isn’t yet settled as far as the fight for relegation is concerned as almost all teams are liable to descend into the elite two championship.
