The 2020_2021 football season in Cameroon, will kick off between late September and early October 2020, the Cameroon Football Federation has confirmed earlier reports on kick442.com.
Speaking during a press briefing at FECAFOOT’s head office in Yaoundé on Thursday afternoon, the FA boss, Seidou Mbombo Njoya said they are envisaging September and early October for the start of the league, so as to permit players have game time before the Intermediate lions get to camp to prepare for the African Nations championship, slated for January 2021 in Cameroon.
He also added that the start of Championship is based on the evolution of the Coronavirus pandemic.
“In Cameroon we have registered more than 15 thousand cases of Coronavirus and health doesn’t have a price. We can’t joke with people’s lives. To allow 20 or 40, 000 people in the stadium, is criminal. I understand the desire from everyone to go back to the field. The organizers also like to go back to the field, but we have to do things correctly, which is respecting the measures that were given by FIFA, together with the W.H.O. we will only start when we have the certainty that it is feasible”, Seidou Mbombo Njoya said, while calling for the football loving population to be patient.
The FECAFOOT boss also hinted that if the championship begins in late September or early October, it might be put to a temporal stop after two months of activities, so as to allow the intermediate lions to prepare for the CHAN which cameroon will be hosting come January 2021.
The 2019_2020 in cameroon was ended prematurely on May 12, 2020, with PWD of Bamenda, Astres of Douala and Louves minproff crowned champions of the elite One, elite two and women’s league respectively.
Clubs in cameroon have been actively preparing for the 2020_2021 season, with alot happening in the transfer market. With the start of the new season billed for September ending or early October, it means the clubs have just two months to dot their I’s and cut their T’s.
