Morocco’s attacking midfielder Sofiane Boufal, has stated that the hot whether in Yaoundé didn’t really work in their favor, despite his side’s win over the black stars of Ghana in a Group C game of the 2021 African Nation’s cup.
The Angers midfielder Sofiane, scored the lone goal of the game with just eight minutes to spare in the highly contested fixture at the Yaoundé Ahmadou Ahidjo stadium. His goal earned him the Man of the match award.
“it is very hot here and we don’t have the habit of always playing in such conditions,” Boufal said post match.
” But I think we entered well into the competition, we were not put in danger except in the second half where they (Ghana) had one or two chances. We know very well that AFCON matches are very complicated and our objective was to win this match, so as to give us confidence for the next two matches, the midfielder added.
Morocco is in search of their second AFCON title, since they last won in 1976. The current cream of players is largely considered by many as the golden generation of Moroccan football, with a majority of them plying their trade in top European clubs.
Coach Vahid Halilhodzic said if all his players are fit, then he is sure of being one of the top title Challengers.
For Boufal, there is no time to waste celebrating the win over Ghana.
“As from tomorrow we will get back to work and we’re very motivated to do something during this AFCON.
Morocco will next play Comoros on Friday January 14, 2022, with a possibility of securing a place for the next round of the competition.
