Democratic Republic of the Congo got its first win and the second for Africa in the Women’s Handball World Cup holding in Japan.

Angola had won their third match against Slovenia to give Africa it first win in the 2019 Women’s Handball World Cup.

The Congolese side pulled the chaste nut out of the fire to get a victory that may be inconsequential for qualification but consequential for a side that would cherish this victory after being pitched against countries like former Olympic Champions, Russia, host Japan and Argentina.

The match had started like it was going to be the usual narrative where the Congo side end up losing as the first half the score stood at DR Congo 10 – 11 China.

However, the score line in the half did suggest that the third best team in Africa had every opportunity to get something out of the result.

They came out better giving their all to beat a Chinese side that has not picked a point in this tournament.

Prior to the game, China was ahead of the Congo team in terms of goals conceded in group D. They were fifth on the log with -34 while Congo sat bottom on the log with -43.

Congo moves to fifth with two points and will be looking to finish better than its twentieth position which it finished in 2013 in Serbia.

Dr. Congo will play Argentina in its last group game on Friday.

This is Congo’s third time at the Women’s Handball World Cup after coming twenty – fourth in 2015.
