Coach Thomas Libiih has named Cameroon’s final 2019 Under 17 FIFA World Cup squad without the six foreign based players presently in Camp with the U17 lions in Brazil.
Since 2014 There is a law in Cameroon limits the selection of players into the U17 team, to only home based players. This was the case with the squad that won the Under 17 AFCON in Tanzania some months ago. But surprisingly, six Cameroonian players plying their trade abroad, were called up into the squad presently camping in Brazil.
Coach Thomas Libiih wrote to his hierarchy demanding for clarity on what the law says concerning the involvement of players who are not based in Cameroon , before he could make known his final list. A request which the president of FECAFOOT, according to documents on the social media, forwarded to his own hierarchy, the minister of sports and physical Education, who also promised to seek the attention of his own hierarchy but Cameroon has now submitted a squad without the players from abroad.
This means that, 16 year old AS Roma forward Barel Fotso, Olympic Lyonnais’ N’Kongue Tiki Joss Aurel, 17, Samuel Eto’o’s son Etienne Pineda Eto’o, 17,on the books of CD Mallorca in Spain, 17-year old defender Enzo Tchato of Montpellier,17-year old Jordan Konango Mbon of AS Monaco and AS Saint Etienne’s defender Bryan Djile Nokoue, 17, will not be part of Cameroon’s expedition in Brazil.
Three of these players scored; Barel Fotso, Eto’o Etienne, and Tiki Joss all scored in Cameroon’s three friendly games in Brazil, giving Cameroonians hopes of a active forward line, when the competition will eventually start in Brazil.
But now coach Thomas Libiih will have to make do without these promising youngsters, as he now hopes Steve Mvoue and his mates can improve on their Vision in front of the goal.
