Under 17 Lions last Training session in Rwanda ahead of departure for Tanzania, Djembe Nestor is second on the Queue

The head coach of the Under 17 Lions of Cameroon has named his final squad of 21 players for the 2019 Under 17 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

Going by the performance of the players in the team’s training sessions since they arrived Brazil, the coach has been constraint to pick only players based in Cameroon.

This is in line with the 2014 degree passed by President Paul Biya of Cameroon preventing the use of players from out of Cameroon in the Under 15 and 17 national teams of Cameroon.

The six abroad based Cameroon players who were drafted into the Cameroon squad and turn up in camp last week will not be a part of the World Cup squad and will return to their clubs in the days ahead.

Coach Thomas Libih’s World Cup squad is without five of the players who went home with a winners medal after the 2019 AFCON in Tanzania.

Jean Baptiste Djembe Nestor has been ruled out because of an ankle injury, Alioum Moubarak pays the prize for the dip in his form from after the UNIFFAC tournament in Guinea while Arc Mintongo,Camal Ryan and Aliou Hendji all stay home after they were declared ineligible for the AFCON.

Cameroon returns the Under 17 FIFA World Cup stage for the first time in 16 years and will face Tajikistan, Spain and Argentina in the group stages of the tournament scheduled to run between October 26 to November 17 2019.
