The Amputee Lions of Cameroon have arrived Angola ahead of the 5th edition of the Amputee AFCON tourney, despite lows and downs in the build-up to their departure.
The group is currently camping in the city of Benguela, where the tournament proper would kick-start on Friday, October 4th, 2019.
The team left Yaounde for Douala on Saturday, before ‘adieus’ were said to fatherland when they departed from the Douala international airport on Sunday at 2:30 pm.
An air of relieve and satisfaction could be spotted on the faces of the 12 players and coach Donald Mangwa before the goodbyes ritual of salutations. The players hardly believed that they were they were finally making the journey after precarious conditions witnessed in the past 1 month or so, due to lack of funds.
The team made a transit through Ethiopia where they arrived at 8:40 pm on Sunday, before passing the night and leaving in the early hours of the morning for Angola.
“We are happy and our intentions are to bring back the trophy home – though it’s our first time”, Fon Dieudonne, a team executive and player told kick442.com on arrival.
